Peach County, GA — September 8, 2025, at least 12 people were injured following a school bus accident at around 6:16 a.m. along Highway 96.
Authorities said that the accident took place at the intersection of Highway 96/Miami Valley Road and Buckeye Road, just east of Fort Valley.

Investigators said that a school bus was on northbound Buckeye at the time, stopped at a stop sign. A Dodge Durango was going eastbound on the highway. Authorities say the vehicles crossed paths when the bus attempted a left turn. As a result, the bus and the Dodge collided.
Due to the collision, the Dodge driver had injuries and was taken to a hospital. It was reported that 11 people from the bus had “minor injuries.” Right now, additional details about the accident are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The most recent images of this intersection I’ve seen appear to show that the highway has no stop sign, which suggests the possibility this school bus failed to yield when it made the turn. Barring some unusual circumstances, that might make things seem open-and-shut. However, any accident involving a government entity is bound to involve unique challenges.
Simply put, there tend to be special rules to following when seeking to hold government entities accountable for an accident caused by one of their agents. This can include time limits victims and families have to notify the government entity of their intent to pursue the matter legally. Those limits can be as short as 90 days in some localities.
So on top of the inherent challenge of investigating a commercial vehicle accident, there could be added challenges here that require a lot more than a standard accident investigation. The sooner steps are taken to understand the laws surrounding this incident, the better chances victims and families will likely have pursuing a fair resolution.
