Accident Report

March 31, 2026, a driver and a student were injured due to a school bus accident early Tuesday along Highway 184.

According to initial statements from authorities, the crash happened along the highway a few miles east of Laurel.

Investigators said that school bus was going along the highway when a teen driving a car somehow crashed into the back of the bus. Due to the collision, the bus driver and a student from the bus were taken to a hospital. Their conditions weren’t specified.

At this time, additional details about the accident are unavailable.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When it comes to rear-end collisions (as this appears to be), the most common factors are distraction, speeding, and following too closely. Considering reports that the driver of the car here was a teenager, people may be even more inclined to believe that’s what led to this crash. As common as those factors are, though, it’s important that investigations rule out other possibilities—even unlikely ones. I’ve seen many rear-end collisions where it turned out the rear driver had little or no way of avoiding the crash.

For example, what was the bus doing at the time of the crash? Did it turn into the path of the car? Did it have working brake lights? Was it backing into the roadway? Just because a vehicle is in front doesn’t automatically mean it’s in the right. As such, it’s important for investigations to dig into the actual evidence and let the facts speak for themselves. Even if that just rules out less likely scenarios, it’s better than blaming someone for something they didn’t actually do.
