Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Things might seem open-and-shut when authorities have someone facing charges after a serious crash. However, the evidence authorities focus on to file charges and the evidence victims and families need to get help after a crash don’t always overlap. I have families come to me all the time who waited around for authorities to do their thing only to find authorities let a whole lot of crucial evidence go untouched. That can lead to serious gaps in the story—gaps which insurance companies are dedicated to exploiting.

As such, after a serious car accident, it’s important to know what evidence investigators are preserving. If they can show they’re turning over every stone to gather the facts, that’s a good sign victims and families will be armed with the tools they need to get a proper resolution. But if there are still unanswered questions, there may need to be further independent investigations to fill in all the gaps.
