How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear at this point why this pickup crashed into a guardrail on S.H. 19. Was the driver fatigued or distracted? Did he swerve to avoid an object in the road? Did the Dodge have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? I don’t claim to know the answer to these questions, but a proper investigation should make it clear what happened north of Bradford.

Data from the truck’s engine control module should show throttle, steering and braking before the crash, while witness statements, cell phones records and any available video footage could provide additional information for investigators as they look to reconstruct this accident.

If authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, a qualified expert should conduct a forensic examination of the Dodge in a laboratory setting. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for that kind of inspection, in my experience, but it could provide a clear picture of how this crash unfolded.

The driver’s family deserves to have answers to any lingering questions they may have about this accident.
