How Did This Accident Occur?
Although this wasn’t a typical car, investigators no doubt looked into a lot of the typical causal factors they’re used to. Distracted driving, unsafe speeds, tire blowouts, that sort of thing. My concern, though, is if they took any time to look more closely at unusual possible factors which a standard car crash reconstruction might not catch. If not, that could lead to mistakes.
For example, did a vehicle defect lead to the accident? In my experience, that’s already something authorities tend to overlook with normal cars. A UTV is only going to present unique challenges for investigators if they don’t know what kind of tools they need to properly inspect the vehicle for defects. They could bring in independent specialists, but that’s not often something that happens without victims and families themselves demanding more thorough inspections.
Maybe none of that will prove necessary, or maybe authorities here are being careful to consider this from all angles. That’s just not something I’d ever take for granted, and I wouldn’t fault any family that wanted to take extra measures to ensure nothing was being overlooked.
