Jones County, TX — December 2, 2025, Ronald Portillo was injured following a car accident around 5:28 a.m. along US Highway 83.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash took place north of Abilene off Beltway N.
According to officials, 25-year-old Ronald Portillo was in a Nissan Altima going northbound along the highway. A Dodge Ram was going westbound when authorities say it failed to yield and crashed with the Nissan. Due to this, Ronald Portillo sustained serious injuries.
Investigators did not report any other injuries. Additional details are unavailable.

With authorities saying that a driver failed to yield here, things may seem pretty open-and-shut. A lot of the time, though, authorities’ efforts will only extend as far as they need to file citations or charges. Meanwhile, victims and families need far more thorough investigations to get a proper resolution for their own needs. Sometimes authorities prioritize accident reconstruction highly enough that they can provide that kind of evidence themselves. But I talk to people all the time who find the official reports insufficient for their needs.
