Accident Report
Terry County, TX — February 24, 2026, Roland Tomlinson was killed in a truck accident at about 6:45 a.m. on U.S. Highway 62 northeast of Brownfield.
Authorities said a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck stalled while trying to make a U-turn in a crossover near County Road 515, blocking the northbound lanes of the highway when it was struck by a 2017 GMC pickup. The vehicle ended up wedged under the truck’s trailer.
The pickup driver, 45-year-old Brownfield resident Roland Scott Tomlinson, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.
The truck driver, a 74-year-old Lubbock man, was not injured, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Terry County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
A U-turn is an inherently dangerous move in a commercial vehicle, even with a professional driver behind the wheel. Some companies I’ve encountered will fire drivers outright for even attempting such a turn, but I’ve also seen employers push drivers to meet unreasonable deadlines, resulting in accidents caused by risky maneuvers like this.
