Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One of the concerns with accidents like this is people tend to just assume the fire was the result of a mistake by a resident. That’s obviously possible, but apartments in particular can bring up all kinds of possibilities. There may have been a botched installation or repair job. An appliance may have had a defect. The property could have electrical issues. There may have been other issues on the property the owners failed to address. These possibilities can take time to properly rule out, so it’s best people avoid jumping to conclusions.
