Burnet County, TX — May 16, 2024, Robert Tobler and one other person were killed and another victim was injured in a car accident at 3:30 p.m. on S.H. 71.

According to authorities, a 36-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were traveling in an eastbound Ford F-150 on S.H. 71 in the vicinity east of Shovel Mountain Road when the accident took place.

The weather and road conditions in the area at the time were reported to have been rainy and wet. Officials indicate that, allegedly because of traveling at unsafe speeds when weather and road conditions are taken into account, the Ford failed to safely maintain it lane of travel. It reportedly hydroplaned and lost control, the vehicle veering left of center and entering the westbound lanes of the highway. There, it was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming Ford F-150 occupied by 70-year-old Robert Tobler.

Both Tobler and the woman from the other pickup truck suffered reportedly fatal injuries due to the wreck. The 36-year-old man from the hydroplaning truck also incurred suspected severe injuries; he was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
