How Did This Accident Occur?

When authorities say there was a distraction in a vehicle, that almost always means a cellphone. That’s why cellphone data is just about the first thing I want to see after any serious crash, let alone a commercial truck accident. But I’ve seen all kinds of other “distractions” lead to accidents before. Not long ago, I had a case where a driver was reaching to grab a sandwich off the floorboard. It could be the driver arguing with their dispatch. It could even be something like a the driver or passenger having a medical emergency.

Whatever happened here, all we know is that the officer said there was a “distraction” in the vehicle. It’s up to more thorough investigations to say if that was an avoidable distraction, an unavoidable emergency, an overbearing employer, etc. If authorities are looking into all of that, that would be good to hear. It’s important, though, to follow up with them early and often. That way, if it seems like authorities aren’t really coming up with clear answers, families can consider seeking out a second opinion.

Has anyone else seen some weird “distractions” cause a serious crash? Tell me about it in the comments.
