Accident Report

Campbell County, WY — September 19, 2026, Robert Phillipps was killed in a rollover accident at about 5:40 p.m. on U.S. Route 14 near Gillette.

Authorities said a Chevrolet Suburban left the highway near Middle Prong Road after the tire came off one of its rear tires. The driver steered back onto the road before the SUV slid across U.S. 14 and rolled down the shoulder.

Chevrolet driver Robert Dale Phillipps, 69, of Gillette died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Campbell County crash at this time.

Initial reports indicate this SUV crashed after losing a time, but at this point we don’t know why. Did it hit something in the road? Was the tire installed improperly? Was the tire worn or defective? Authorities should consider these possibilities as they investigate this crash.
