People often think car accidents are as simple as knowing who police blame for the crash. Time after time, though, I get calls from folks who find themselves dealing with insurance companies who are demanding all kind of evidence the authorities never provided. That’s why even typical car accidents can be incredibly challenging.

At the end of the day, victims and families need as much evidence telling their side of the story as possible. Cellphone records, road markings, camera footage, vehicle inspections, witness statements, debris analysis, vehicle data, toxicology reports—common or uncommon, these are all important details to have. The less room there is to muddy the waters, the better the outcomes victims and families are likely to receive.
