How Did This Accident Occur?

Was the driver distracted or fatigued? Did he swerve to avoid another vehicle? Did the GMC have an issue with its steering mechanism or brakes? I don’t claim to know the answers to these questions, based on what is in the initial crash report, but these are the kind of things that authorities must consider as they investigate this accident.

Investigators should be able to find answers about what caused this crash by poring over physical evidence, vehicle data, witness statements and any available video footage. Cell phone records could offer insight into what the driver was doing at the time, while a forensic examination will be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this accident.

Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience, but the driver’s family deserves to know as much as possible about the crash.
