How Did This Accident Occur?
Most folks would probably assume this crash was a case of driver error and not give it any further thought. But over the course of my career, I’ve learned that first impressions often are the right ones, so I always encourage people to reserve judgment until the investigation is complete. Facts are always better than assumptions or guesswork.
What if this truck went off the road because it had a problem with its steering mechanism? Or if the truck’s load shifted and made it unstable?
Authorities should be able to find data about the truck’s speed, brake and throttle inputs by reviewing data from its engine control module, but a deeper examination may be needed to determine if it had any mechanical issues that contributed to the crash. That may require an independent investigation, since in my experience many law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or expertise for such exams.
