How Did This Accident Occur?

If I were to immediately jump to the most common reasons a crash like this can happen, cellphone use and alcohol would be my first thoughts. Those can present some unique challenges on their own—especially alcohol, if a driver was unlawfully over-served by a bar. But I don’t base things off what is or isn’t likely. I focus on the evidence, and that’s why it’s important to know how thorough investigations will be into serious crashes like this.

For all anyone knows, a crash can happen due to a vehicle defect. That’s not something a quick glance over the crash scene can usually catch. It takes a careful inspection of the vehicles involved in the crash to make sure everything functioned the way it was supposed to. I’ve seen a lot of situations where the people in the vehicle itself didn’t even know something went wrong until there were closer inspections of the vehicle.

If authorities are taking steps to ensure that sort of thing is ruled out, that would be good to hear. It’s just not something I see all the time, so victims and families should always pay attention and make sure their crash is in the right hands. Otherwise, something important could slip through the cracks.

Do you think that’s me just being too thorough? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
