Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Simply put, there are too many drivers who do not keep a proper lookout for motorcyclists. It’s bad enough cars are out there putting riders in danger without them also having to worry about large trucks pulling trailers cutting across their path. If that is what really happened here, authorities shouldn’t just cite the driver and call it a day. They need to find out why this happened.

Was the driver on their phone? Were they intoxicated? Were they on the job at the time and rushing to meet a deadline? Do they have a history of reckless behavior? Is this stretch of road uniquely dangerous for motorcyclists and other smaller vehicles?

Answering those questions takes careful investigations and swift action to preserve evidence that may be time-sensitive. If authorities drag their feet and treat this like some run-of-the-mill fender bender, they’re bound to miss something important. The sooner the facts are gathered, the better the outcomes will likely be for those involved.
