Lubbock, TX — June 6, 2024, Raquel Rios and one other were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 10:25 p.m. on U.S. 87.
Preliminary details released by authorities say that the accident happened on the southbound U.S. 87 service road in the area of County Road 7200.

According to officials, 39-year-old Raquel Rios was inside of a Nissan Altima stopped along the right lane of travel. The Nissan had its emergency lights on and was behind a Chevy Tahoe with a trailer. A Chevy Silverado approaching the vehicles did not avoid them, crashing into Rios’s vehicle and the Tahoe. As a result, Rios and a person inside the Tahoe had unspecified injuries.

Authorities say that the Silverado driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. They didn’t mention if they were looking into where the driver got their alcohol. Frankly, that’s an important details authorities tend to miss. I’ve had hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers whose illegal over-service of alcohol led to people getting hurt, and it’s usually us bringing the alcohol provider to the attention of authorities. They sometimes take the initiative to pursue criminal investigations on their own, but that’s quite an exception. Maybe authorities here have been more thorough, but I definitely wouldn’t take that for granted.
