How Did This Accident Occur?
When I read that this pickup overturned as part of the crash, I immediately wanted to know more. In the course of my work, I’ve learned that most vehicles offer very little rollover protection. That is partly because the government’s rollover test is flawed. It applies angled pressure to the car roof, rather than accurately simulating the real-world forces of a rollover crash, so many carmakers design their cars simply to pass the test. That isn’t necessarily the same as doing what is needed to protect the people inside.
Without getting too technical, it’s impossible to know whether a rollover crash turns fatal because of a design flaw in the vehicle without having someone with the proper qualifications looking at the evidence and inspecting the vehicle in a laboratory setting.
