With single-vehicle wrecks, there can be a serious concern about how thorough investigations have been. Authorities don’t always prioritize these kinds of accidents, so important details can slip through the cracks. It’s no mystery why I get calls all the time from people involved in crashes like this who are concerned their side of the story won’t be told fairly.

That’s why independent investigations can be so crucial. It isn’t just some knock on the efforts of police to handle crashes like this on their own. Sometimes, an independent investigations shows they did a good job, and they were able to get all the facts. But if authorities didn’t have the time or tools they needed to get the job done, an independent investigation can bring new details to light and make sure the full story is clear. It remains to be seen if similar steps would be necessary here.
