How Did This Accident Occur?
A car accident involving a vehicle turning through a traffic light is usually the result of someone failing to yield. That can involve things like distracted driving, fatigue, or just plain old impatience. Of course, it’s important to consider all kinds of other possible factors and not jump to blame anyone without having all the facts.
To that end, it may concern some folks that one of the vehicles involved was a police vehicle. I get a lot of questions from folks who wonder if authorities are required to hand off investigations if the accident involves one of their officers. The truth is they don’t have to do that, and that can lead some folks to question how much they can trust authorities “investigating one of their own.” In my experience, though, the solution is pretty simple.
Folks generally find the best results when they’re just upfront with the authorities about their concerns. If they have questions that authorities can answer and show they did proper investigations into, then it can reassure victims and families there was no sort of malfeasance. But if answers aren’t adding up or questions remain unanswered entirely, that can be a sign to bring in independent investigators to verify the facts. Over the years, I’ve found that when families trust their instincts and pursue the facts, they can’t go wrong. I doubt this crash would be an exception to that.
In the meantime, is anyone local and familiar with this intersection? Is it a dangerous light? Let me know in the comments.
