Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

These details seem to be pretty straight-forward, but that shouldn’t be a reason to get complacent. A serious crash needs a serious investigation, and that’s not something authorities can always guarantee. That’s why I generally encourage people to be proactive and follow up with the authorities as early as possible. If they have no problem answering questions and addressing concerns, that’s likely because they did good investigations. But if it seems like their answers are coming up short, that may be when independent investigators need to step in and pick up the slack.
