Accident Report
May 15, 2026, two teenagers were injured after an alleged drunk driver accident at around 7:41 p.m. along Highway 6.
Authorities were called to the area of Highway 6 and Rancho Mission Drive, just south of Bellaire Boulevard.
It appears that two boys, both 16, were walking in the area. While doing so, a Jeep Liberty going northbound reportedly struck the boys. Both teens reportedly had serious injuries due to the accident.
Authorities allege that the Jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. They recommended charges for intoxication assault. Additional details are unavailable at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It seems pretty obvious from reports that alcohol is the suspected cause of this accident. Even if those allegations are true, though, that might only be half the story. I’ve seen hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases where it was not just an intoxicated person’s actions but also the actions of a negligent alcohol provider that led to an accident. Let me explain.
In Texas, bars, restaurants, liquor stores, clubs, and other providers can contribute to accidents by over-serving customers. Essentially, if someone is obviously intoxicated, and a provider continues serving them, then the alcohol provider can be responsible when people get hurt due to that intoxication. Our legislature recognized the responsibility alcohol providers have to handle their product safely, just as drivers have a responsibility not to driver while intoxicated. So, they, too, have to fact accountability when their actions lead to harm.
Of course, it could be that this all was just one reckless individual deciding to drive drunk. That certainly happens. But if there’s even a slight chance that an accomplice sent two kids to the hospital with serious injuries, it’s important they answer for their actions. For the record, my experience has shown me that the chance isn’t all that slight. As such, I’d be concerned if authorities weren’t at least considering if over-service of alcohol might have played a role in this accident.
