Accident Report
Pleasanton, TX — March 16, 2026, a pedestrian was injured in a truck accident at about 3:15 p.m. on West Oaklawn Road/State Highway 97.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck was heading east when it hit a pedestrian near Chaparral Drive. The truck had defective or no brakes on its trailer, according to the report.
The pedestrian, 26, was flown to a San Antonio hospital with critical injuries, according to authorities.
The truck driver, who was not injured, is not facing any charges in connection with the crash at this time, the report states.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Atascosa County crash.
How Did This Accident Occur?
The indication that the truck involved in this crash had a problem with its brakes means it likely requires some specialized investigation.
Authorities can track the movements of the truck and the pedestrian before this crash, but most law enforcement agencies aren’t equipped to perform a forensic analysis of a commercial motor vehicle, in my experience. That needs to be done by a qualified expert in a laboratory setting.
That examination can help determine if a mechanical problem with the truck contributed to this crash. If that is the case, the trucking company or its maintenance company could bear some accountability for this accident, if it was caused by the truck driver. We won’t know if that is the case until a full investigation is completed.
