Accident Report

May 17, 2026, one person was killed due to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident around 10:17 p.m. along FM 1003.

Investigators said that the crash happened near Sugar Maple Road west of Kountze. It appears that a 56-year-old woman was on foot at the time. In events which are not clear, a vehicle apparently struck the woman. That vehicle then left the scene.

The woman died as a result of the accident. It’s unclear at this time if authorities located or identified a suspect driver.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Late at night, it’s generally dangerous for pedestrians to be on a road like this. That said, drivers don’t often flee accident scenes unless they did something wrong. Especially at night, alcohol is a serious possibility. Of course, finding out for sure would mean locating the driver. Hopefully authorities can release more details to the public. Someone in the community may be able to come forward with new information that may help locate the runaway driver.
