According to officials, a 44-year-old woman was on foot at the time along FM 2604. While doing so, a Jeep going westbound struck the woman. As a result, the woman was killed.
Authorities allege that the Jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol. Reports say authorities recommended charges for intoxication manslaughter.
How Did This Accident Occur?
If the allegations here are true, then it would seem intoxicated driving is the key culprit here. Maybe further investigations will reveal other factors, but anytime alcohol is involved in a crash, it’s usually the most significant factor. It might seem unusual for this sort of thing to happen just before noon, but I’ve seen plenty of serious alcohol-related crashes happen during off-hours.
Sometimes, drivers go out to a brunch spot that has bottomless mimosas or something similar. Other times, they may go for an early lunch at a sports bar. I’ve seen people who stumbled into a liquor store right after it opened, the cashier unlawfully sold them more alcohol, and they continued drinking. And sometimes people are even still intoxicated from a late night, early morning out.
Whatever ultimately happened here, it’s important investigators retrace the driver’s steps and get the full story. Not only is that important for ruling out possible complicit negligent alcohol providers, but it helps ensure there are as few gaps in the story as possible as authorities work toward seeing there’s accountability for what happened here.
