How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve had the opportunity, over the last three decades in which I’ve had this career, to analyze thousands of car accidents. I’ve learned, in that time, that there is no such thing as a simple car accident. That includes the car accidents that involve pedestrians. At this point, the truth is that we still know very little about how the collision between this pedestrian and police vehicle actually occurred. Was the driver distracted? Was alcohol a factor? What were the environmental factors? Is there enough pedestrian infrastructure in the area? Was there a mechanical malfunction with the police vehicle? The list of questions goes on and on.

Hopefully, investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—ask and answer all the questions necessary to pull back the layers of the accident and get to the bottom of not just how the accident occurred, but why. Vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation won’t cut it.
