How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people see a pedestrian hit by a car on the interstate and figure things are open-and-shut. After all, it’s not really a safe place for pedestrians to be. But we don’t really have any clear information about what happened here. If someone was just trying to cross a dark interstate, yes, that would be irresponsible. But what if there were extenuating circumstances?

Was there some kind of emergency going on? Was the pedestrian on the shoulder after a vehicle breakdown? Were they unlawfully over-served by a bar to the point of being dangerously intoxicated? Were they in a well-lit area trying to flag down traffic?

I’ve seen just about every situation one could imagine leading up to a pedestrian accident. Jumping to conclusions is the last thing that’s going to help anyone after an accident like this. That’s why my hope is that investigators here are focused on getting as much evidence as possible to tell the story.

Did anybody witness this accident or see the pedestrian prior to the collision? Let me know in the comments if you saw anything noteworthy.
