Lynn, MA — June 5, 2026, Paul Addonizio was killed in a truck accident at about 11 a.m. on Lynnway/Massachusetts Route 1A.

Authorities said a semi-truck hit a man on a bicycle near the intersection with Commercial Street.

The cyclist, 71-year-old Lynn resident Paul Addonizio, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.

The truck driver remained at the scene, authorities said, but it is not clear if any charges will be filed in connection with the crash.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Essex County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Police have not released much information about this crash at this point. Was the cyclist riding in traffic or was there a designated bike lane? How did the truck hit the bike; did it rear-end the smaller vehicle or did they collide during a lane change? Was the truck driver distracted? Did the truck have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? I don’t know the answer to these questions as I sit at my desk, but they are the things that authorities must address in their investigation.

Investigators likely will start by trying to reconstruct the accident, using physical evidence, witness statements, data from the truck and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the driver and the rider were doing at the time, but a qualified expert will be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash.

Most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience, but the bicyclist’s family deserves to know as much as possible about what caused this crash.
