How Did This Accident Occur?

To answer this question, it’s important that investigators look into uncommon things, like vehicle defects or road hazards, as much as they consider more common things, like distracted driving or unsafe speeds. A lot of people look at that and thinks it’s some attempt to shift the blame. However, there are two things to keep in mind.

One is that I’ve been handling serious accident cases for over 30 years now. Name a factor that can cause a crash, likely or not, and chances are I’ve encountered it before. As such, they all need to be part of an investigation, even if it’s just to rule something out.

And two, the victim in this particular crash was reportedly a passenger along for the ride. In virtually every crash where a passenger suffers injuries, they had no control over what happened. Whether a driver makes a mistake, the manufacturer of a defective part, or city in charge of maintaining roadways, chances are someone did something that led to the passenger’s injuries. As such, there is a broad spectrum of possibilities that need to be considered.

So if authorities are treating this crash as the complex, serious crash that it likely is, that would be good to hear. It’s just not the sort of thing anyone should take for granted.
