Dalhart, TX — June 20, 2023, Oscar Soto Salinas was killed as the result of a work accident at around 12:30 p.m. off U.S. Highway 385.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration released an investigation summary of the fatal accident, which they say happened at 13401 U.S. 385, several miles north of Dalhart.

The statements from OSHA say that 56-year-old Oscar Soto Salinas was working with a supervisor to free an auger that was stuck. The OSHA summary claims Soto Salinas was using a pipe wrench and did not have head protection. When the auger came free, the pipe wrench struck Soto Salinas in the head. As a result, Soto Salinas was killed.
At the time of writing, the OSHA investigation summary lists five alleged violation citations, four of which were labeled as “serious.” They also listed a recommended penalty of $25,893. The case status is still listed as “Open” at this time.
