Accident Report
May 16, 2026, Oscar Salazar was injured following an 18-wheeler accident that happened at around 7:51 a.m. along I-40.
Investigators reported that the crash happened a few miles east of Amarillo near FM 2373. It appears that 31-year-old Oscar Salazar and three juveniles were in a Mercury Mountaineer traveling eastbound along the interstate. An 18-wheeler was going the same direction. Somehow, the vehicles collided.
Oscar Salazar reportedly sustained serious injuries in the crash. The three kids in the car may have been hurt, but this was not confirmed. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
When vehicles going the same direction collide, it’s generally due to something that impaired a driver’s ability to react in time. Most common are possible distracted driving or fatigue. Of course, it’s also important to consider uncommon possible factors, as well. For all anyone knows, brake or tire defects could have contributed to the crash. inspecting both vehicles and securing electronic data could help shine a light on things, and I can only hope authorities are taking those steps.
I unfortunately see many examples of authorities treating complex truck wrecks the same way they treat fender benders. This can lead to serious oversights if there isn’t another set of eyes looking things over to ensure nothing slips through the cracks. It remains to be seen what kind of attention this crash is getting.
Did anyone witness what happened here? Let me know in the comments if authorities left out any important context.
