Town and Country, MO — April 23, 2026, Ray Hartmann was killed in a truck tire accident at about 2 p.m. on Interstate 64/Avenue of the Saints.

Authorities said a 2020 Volvo semi-truck was heading east when it lost two tires from its left side. The tires flew into the air after hitting the concrete median, then crashed through the roof of a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt.

The truck driver was not injured, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the St. Louis County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

This isn’t some kind of freak accident in my experience. It’s a flashing red light indicating that someone needs to take a look at the truck’s tire logs, inspection reports and maintenance records. That should help determine why the Volvo semi-truck lost two tires in a business where regular inspection and replacement is required.

After a crash like this, it’s worth asking if the tires were even roadworthy to begin with. Blowouts and tire failure usually can be prevented if issues like wear, underinflation and overloading are addressed before trucks hit the road.

A thorough investigation will determine just how this accident was allowed to happen, and show the victim’s family just who may have been responsible for this crash.
