Accident Report

Pike County, MO — April 9, 2026, a pedestrian was killed in a truck accident at about 4:45 a.m. on U.S. Route 61/Avenue of the Saints.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a pedestrian was crossing the highway north of Pike 305 when he was hit by a southbound 2026 Freightliner semi-truck. The truck skidded to a stop, but was unable to avoid the collision north of Eolia.

The pedestrian, a 26-year-old St. Louis man, died after being transported to a nearby hospital, according to the report. The man, whose name has not been made public, reportedly had been driving a silver Ford Focus, but authorities have not been able to locate it yet.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries in the collision, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Pike County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Reading between the lines a little, it appears that authorities still have questions about what happened leading up to this crash. It is unclear why the pedestrian was crossing U.S. 61 on foot, but there are indications that he had a car at some point. Did the car break down or run out of gas nearby, forcing him to go looking for help on foot? I hope authorities are addressing that question already in their investigation of the crash.
