How Did This Accident Occur?

Why did this truck crash into a car on the New Jersey Turnpike? Maybe the driver was distracted or fatigued. Maybe the car slowed or stopped suddenly. Maybe truck had an issue with its throttle or steering mechanism. The only way to know for sure, in my experience, is to wait until the investigation is complete.

Investigators will work to reconstruct this crash, using physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records can show what each driver was doing at the time, while the truck driver’s log could show how long he had been on the road.

The semi-truck’s maintenance records will show if it was due for any repairs, but a forensic examination will be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical problem contributed to the crash. Most law enforcement agencies are not equipped for such inspections, but the family of the child who died in this crash deserves to know as much as possible about this crash.
