How Did This Accident Occur?
Was the truck driver distracted before this crash, or did his truck have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are just two possibilities that investigators need to consider as they work to reconstruct this crash.
Investigators need to be open to any possibility, no matter how remote, as they gather evidence about the crash from witness statements, cell phone records, data from the vehicles and any available traffic or dashcam footage. That evidence should help them piece together how this crash happened, and direct additional efforts to figure out the why.
That may include turning to an independent expert if authorities suspect the truck had a mechanical issue that contributed to this crash. In my experience, most law enforcement agencies lack the time or training to conduct that kind of forensic examination.
