Accident Report
DeKalb County, IL — August 5, 2026, one person was killed and three others were injured in a truck accident just after noon on State Route 23 near Genoa.
Authorities said a 2025 Mazda CX-5 failed to yield at a stop sign on Melms Road, moving into the path of a northbound Mack semi-truck loaded with gravel. The two vehicles collided, and hit a southbound 2013 Nissan Altima.
The Nissan driver, whose name has not been made public yet, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.
The Mazda driver and a passenger were hospitalized with serious injuries after escaping the burning car, authorities said. An infant in the car suffered minor injuries.
The truck driver suffered moderate injuries, according to authorities.
The Mazda driver was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign after the crash, authorities said.
