Authorities said a northbound semi-truck caught fire after crashing into a wall near the U.S. Route 50 overpass.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Hamilton County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear from initial report why this truck crashed into a wall on I-71, but I’m more concerned about why it caught fire.

Vehicles aren’t supposed to burst into flames after a seemingly minor crash. Did the crash damage its gas tank? Or was it hauling something hazardous that caught fire after the crash?

Investigators likely will get the bottom of this issue, but the digging into this crash shouldn’t stop at the scene along the side of the interstate. They should look at maintenance logs and other trucking company records to ensure the semi was not due for any repairs that might have contributed to this crash. The company for loading its cargo deserves some scrutiny as well.

The truck driver’s family deserves a thorough investigation like the one I’ve described so they can know everyone who may have played a role in this crash.
