Accident Report
Hillsboro, TX — April 10, 2026, one person was killed in a truck accident at about 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 35/Monarch Highway.
Authorities said a Dodge pickup was stopped in a traffic lane near mile marker 365 when it was hit from behind by a northbound semi-truck, causing it to overturn and catch fire. It is not clear why the pickup, which had dim or non-functioning headlights, had stopped on I-35.
The pickup driver, a 50-year-old Houston man whose name has not been made public yet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.
The truck driver was not injured, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Hill County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
The lingering question about this crash is why the Dodge pickup stopped on I-35. Did it break down? Did it run out of gas? Was the driver fatigued or impaired? I expect authorities to get to the bottom of that question in their investigation while attempting to reconstruct this crash.
Investigators also should look into whether the truck had an opportunity to avoid this crash. Reviewing evidence at the scene, data from the vehicles and any available video footage of the collision will yield evidence to piece together how this accident happened, but investigators will have to move quickly to get to the Dodge before it is scrapped or repaired.
