How Did This Accident Occur?

Early reports on this crash don’t tell us how the collision happened. I expect that will become clear as the investigation proceeds, and I hope authorities will take a careful look at this crash. Crashes involving commercial vehicles or motorcycles are complex, so this one likely will be more so since it involves both.

Data from the truck’s engine control module and any available dash or traffic camera footage of the crash should help authorities reconstruct this crash, but investigators should consider whether mechanical issues contributed to this accident. Motorcycles are vulnerable to such malfunctions, but in my experience investigators often don’t have experience with such crashes.

The victim’s loved ones deserve to know as much as possible about how this crash happened, and it is up to investigators to provide them with answers.
