Accident Report

Maricopa County, AZ — March 16, 2026, one person was killed in a truck accident at about 12:30 a.m. on the Interstate 10 off-ramp at Riggs Road.

Authorities said an eastbound Toyota 4Runner was leaving the interstate when it crashed into a semi-truck that was parked on the shoulder. Both vehicles caught fire after the crash.

The Toyota driver, whose name has not been made public yet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Chandler, according to authorities.

The truck driver, who was asleep at the time of the crash, was not injured, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Maricopa County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It would be easy to say the Toyota driver is to blame for this crash, but experience has taught me that collisions rarely that simple.

The truck was stopped, but was it fully off the road? Did the driver turn on the truck’s hazard signs and deploy triangles or flares to ensure it was visible to oncoming traffic? There are important questions because a 40,000-pound truck virtually disappears into the night if it is not lit up properly.
