How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s tempting to blame the truck driver for this crash, since he was the only one on the scene, but a career spent handing commercial vehicle accidents has taught me that crashes like this usually aren’t so simple.
It could be that this crash happened because the driver was talking on his phone or watching a video so he was too distracted to keep his truck on the road, but if he was exhausted from too many hours behind the wheel that could be on the trucking company that put him on the road.
If the truck had a problem with its steering mechanism, that would be on the trucking company or its maintenance provider.
If the truck’s load shifted because it was not secured properly, that would be on the company that loaded the truck.
This is why I always say people shouldn’t rush to any conclusions about commercial vehicle accidents. They are complex incidents that require thorough investigations to determine what truly happened.
