How Did This Accident Occur?
It is not clear at this point which vehicle had the right of way at this intersection, but that is just one of questions that authorities must consider as they investigate this accident. Was one of these drivers distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Was one vehicle speeding? Did one of these vehicles have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism?
A thorough investigation — built on physical evidence, vehicle data and any available witness statements or video footage — should provide the SUV driver’s family with a clear picture of how this accident happened, but it is also worth looking into whether the vehicle provided proper rollover protection.
Most vehicles are designed to pass the government’s rollover test, not necessarily to protect drivers, so a qualified expert should look at the evidence and examine the SUV in a laboratory setting.
