Accident Report

Daviess County, KY — March 11, 2026, David Fischer was killed in a hit-and-run truck accident at about 6:50 a.m. on Interstate 165/William H. Natcher Freeway.

Authorities said a tow truck technician was assisting the driver of a disabled semi-truck when he was hit by a southbound semi-truck near the line between Daviess and Ohio counties. The truck also sideswiped the tow truck and the other truck as it continued going south.

The technician, 71-year-old David Fischer, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash south of Owensboro, according to authorities, while the driver of the disabled truck was not injured.

The other truck was located in Ohio County, where the driver had stopped to inspect the damage to his vehicle, authorities said. He subsequently was arrested on charges of second-degree manslaughter, first-degree wonton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident involving death and failure to give right of way to an emergency vehicle.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Daviess County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Based on the charges filed against the truck driver, it seems authorities have settled on what happened in this crash, but it still deserves a full investigation to prove, or disprove, these conclusions.

While driver inattention seems a likely cause for this crash, it is worth checking the truck to ensure that it didn’t any mechanical issues that caused sudden acceleration or problems with its steering mechanism.

Investigators also should look into the company that hired the driver to see if it adequately screens job applicants and provides proper training.

The investigation, whether completed by police or an independent third party, should identify everyone who is responsible for causing this crash.
