How Did This Accident Occur?

We don’t know much about this crash at this point. Which vehicle had the right of way? Was the motorcycle speeding to get through the intersection before the light changed? Did the dump truck have an issue with its brakes? I don’t claim to know the answer to these questions, but they are the kind of things that investigators should consider as they work to reconstruct this accident.

The answers will come from poring over witness statements, physical evidence, data from the truck and any available video footage of the crash. Cell phone records may show what the truck driver was doing at the time, but an outside expert may be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash.

Most law enforcement agencies lack the time or training to conduct the kind of forensic examination needed to identify such a problem, in my experience, but the motorcyclist’s family deserves to know as much as possible about this accident.
