Accident Report
Iowa Park, TX — April 18, 2026, a bicyclist was killed in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 4:30 a.m. in the 500 block of West Highway Street/U.S. Highway 287 Business.
Authorities said a westbound Chevrolet pickup hit a boy riding his bicycle before crashing into a ditch.
The 13-year-old boy died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.
The Chevrolet driver, who said he was driving home from a Wichita Falls nightclub, admitted he had been drinking before the crash, authorities said. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in the boy’s death.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Wichita County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
I expect authorities to take all of the usual steps — gathering physical evidence, data from the pickup and any available video footage — as they investigate this crash, but they should continue beyond the crash scene if blood tests prove the Chevrolet driver was intoxicated, as alleged.
The driver reportedly said he had been at a Wichita Falls nightclub before the crash, so investigators should look into whether the club may have played a role in this accident. Under Texas law, alcohol providers can share responsibility for injuries caused by a patron who was served despite being visibly intoxicated.
I don’t know if that is what happened in this instance, but it is definitely an angle that should be investigated, even if the fallen bicyclist’s family has to find an independent investigator to figure out if someone other than the Chevrolet driver may be responsible for this crash.
