Accident Report

Colorado Springs, CO — June 1, 2026, a motorcyclist was killed in a box truck accident just before 8 a.m. in the 800 block of East Fillmore Street.

Authorities said a box truck was turning left into a parking lot when it collided with a westbound motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, whose name has not been made public yet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.

The box truck driver was not injured, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the El Paso County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Did the box truck turn when it was unsafe? Did the motorcycle have a problem with its brakes? I don’t claim to know the answer to these questions, but they are the kind of things that investigators must consider as they look into this crash.

Investigators likely will work to reconstruct this accident by poring over physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the drivers were doing at the time of the crash.

An outside expert probably will be needed to examine the vehicles if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, since most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience.

This investigation should provide answers to any lingering questions the motorcyclist’s family may have about this accident.
