How Did This Accident Occur?
This has been reported as a single-vehicle crash, but what if another vehicle forced it off the road? Or maybe the driver was distracted or swerved to avoid an object in the road? Or possibly the vehicle had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are the questions that investigators must address as they look into this accident.
Evidence from the scene, data from the vehicle’s engine control module and any available witness statements or video footage will help authorities reconstruct this crash, but they likely don’t have the time or training to conduct a forensic examination of the vehicle if they suspect a mechanical problem contributed to the crash. That requires a qualified expert, looking at the vehicle in a laboratory setting.
All of these steps, and possibly more, are necessary to provide much-needed answers for the driver’s family. They don’t deserve to be saddled with any lingering questions after this crash on State Highway 114.
