How Did This Accident Occur?
Was the Chevrolet driver distracted? Did she swerve to avoid another vehicle? Did the car have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? I don’t claim to know the answer to these questions from what has been made public yet, but these are the kind of things that authorities should consider as they investigate this crash.
Investigators will work to reconstruct this accident by poring over vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and any available video footage, while cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time.
A qualified expert should examine the Chevrolet in a laboratory setting if authorities suspect a mechanical problem played a role in this crash. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, but the bicyclist’s family deserves to know as much as possible about what caused this accident.
