How Did This Accident Occur?
Police have not said how these two vehicles came together at this point. Maybe they don’t know at this point, but investigators should be able to sort out what happened and why.
Maybe the truck overcorrected after veering out of its lane and collided the Jeep. Maybe the Jeep crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the truck. Maybe one of the drivers was fatigued or distracted. Maybe one of them was fighting some kind of mechanical issue, like a faulty steering mechanism. There are the kind of scenarios that investigators should consider as they work to piece together what happened on U.S. 36.
Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage should help, while cell phone records could show was each driver was doing at the time of the crash. A forensic examination will be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to the crash.
