Gonzales County, TX — May 23, 2026, a Christine man was injured in a truck accident at about 1:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 183 south of Gonzales.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2103 Mack truck was heading north when it left the road and overturned as it approached County Road 327.
The driver, a 45-year-old Christine resident, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report. His name has not been made public yet.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Gonzales County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It is not clear at this point why this truck left the road. Was the driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did it swerve to avoid another vehicle or an object in the road? Did the truck have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are the kind of questions that authorities must consider as they investigate this crash.
Investigators likely will start by gathering physical evidence, witness statements, data from the truck’s engine control module and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time.
An outside expert likely will be needed to conduct a forensic examination of the truck if authorities suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience, but the injured driver and his family deserve to know as much as possible about what happened on U.S. 183.
